Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Effective date: June 20, 2026
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us and information generated through your use of the Service.
Account information: When you register, we collect your email address, chosen display name, and password (stored as a secure hash — we never store your plaintext password).
User Content: Questions, answers, polls, votes, and other content you post or interact with, including timestamps and category selections.
Usage data: Information about how you use the Service, such as pages visited, features used, search queries, and session duration.
Technical data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, referring URLs, and similar technical information collected automatically through cookies and server logs.
Communications: If you contact us for support or with feedback, we retain those communications.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
- Create and manage your account;
- Process and display your User Content;
- Conduct AI-assisted content moderation to promote platform safety;
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms;
- Send you service-related communications (e.g., password reset emails, policy updates);
- Analyse usage patterns to understand how people use our Service and to improve it;
- Comply with legal obligations; and
- Serve and measure the effectiveness of advertising displayed on the Service.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Information We Share
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:
Service providers: We work with third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Service, including cloud hosting, email delivery, payment processing, and AI content moderation. These providers are contractually bound to use your information only to provide services to us.
AI moderation: User Content submitted to the Service may be transmitted to third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI) solely for content moderation purposes. This processing is governed by those providers' data processing agreements.
Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, subpoena, court order, or other governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, prevent fraud, or protect the safety of any person.
Business transfers: If Liyo is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
With your consent: We may share your information for any other purpose with your prior consent.
4. Advertising
The Service displays advertisements. Advertisers are independent third parties and do not receive your personal information from us unless you interact with their ad in a way that involves sharing such information directly with them.
We use aggregate, non-personally-identifiable data (such as broad category interests, geography, and session timing) to serve contextually relevant ads. We do not build individual advertising profiles or use your browsing history from other websites to target you.
Advertiser content is subject to our Advertiser Terms of Service. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of advertisers.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate the Service, maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyse usage patterns.
Strictly necessary cookies: Required for the Service to function (e.g., session authentication). You cannot opt out of these.
Analytics cookies: Help us understand how the Service is used. You can disable these through your browser settings, though doing so may affect functionality.
Most browsers allow you to control cookies through browser settings. Disabling cookies may impact your ability to use certain features of the Service.
6. Anonymous Posting and Pseudonymity
Liyo supports anonymous and pseudonymous posting. When you post content, your chosen display name (not your email) is associated with your posts by default.
However, anonymity is not absolute. Your account is linked to your email address, and server logs associate content with IP addresses and session identifiers. We may be legally required to disclose this data in response to valid legal process.
We strongly encourage you not to share personal information — yours or others' — in your posts.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. We retain User Content for as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention or legal defence).
Aggregated, de-identified data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you may be retained indefinitely.
8. Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These include encrypted storage of passwords, HTTPS for data in transit, and access controls for our systems.
No security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. In the event of a data breach that affects your rights and freedoms, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for promptly notifying us of any suspected unauthorised access.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: Request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Portability: Request that we provide your personal information in a portable format.
- Objection / Restriction: Object to or request restriction of certain processing activities.
- Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw that consent at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us. We will respond to all legitimate requests within the timeframe required by applicable law. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on your request.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
11. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than the country in which you reside. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to any country in which Liyo or its service providers operate, subject to appropriate safeguards.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users (for example, by email or a prominent notice within the Service). We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
13. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact us. We take all privacy enquiries seriously and will respond as promptly as possible.
For data subject rights requests under GDPR, CCPA, or other privacy regulations, please clearly state the right you wish to exercise and provide enough information to verify your identity.
